It is known that the Nazis had a particular interest in this area of the Caucuses which is known for its high levels of natural radioactivity. It is believed that one section of the Nazis found this area particularly fascinating, the Ahnenerbe - the group dedicated to the study and research of supernatural phenomenon.

He also had the individuals under his command investigate claims of occult powers and extra-terrestrial life. It is believed that the search for aliens took the Ahnenerbe to this region of Russia.

Perhaps it is the case that the discovery of these alien skulls strongly suggests that this clandestine Nazi order were successful in their quest to discover extra-terrestrial life.
