There was excited speculation among members of the UFO community earlier this week after footage emerged on multiple Peruvian websites purportedly showing a burning orb or flying saucer UFO crashing to Earth over the Peruvian capital city Lima.
According to local media reports, hundreds of stunned residents of Lima witnessed the mysterious burning or orange glowing UFO streaking earthward across the sky at dusk.
Reports that similar objects were sighted recently in other parts of the country, including over the highlands and the Amazon rainforest regions of the country sparked excited speculation, with many UFO enthusiasts suggesting that the country was experiencing a wave of extraterrestrial visitations.
But no one could explain why aliens were taking a special interest in Peru.
The minute-long footage causing excitement in multiple UFO forums first emerged last week on a Peruvian website Canaln. It shows a bright or "burning" object illuminating dark skies and leaving a trail of bright light behind it as it streaked earthward, according to the Daily Mail.
The object, described by some witnesses as oval-shaped, can been seen in the video falling to Earth until it eventually disappeared behind a row of trees.
But skeptics have dismissed claims that the mysterious object was an alien UFO, saying it was more likely space junk making re-entry or a meteor burning in the atmosphere as it plunged to the ground.
However, some UFO enthusiasts claimed that part of the footage showing a street light turning on suddenly as the mysterious object passed over it suggests that the object was not space junk or a meteor but alien technology that was able to influence or control electrical equipment remotely through some form of interference.
Skeptics responded that the street light turning on was only a coincidence and that there was nothing unusual or remarkable about street light turning on at dusk when it was nearly dark.
"UFO? Sure. But the light likely turns on at dusk. Would have been more impressed if only that light turned on."
Media reports about a similar object seen earlier by hundreds living in remote areas of the Peruvian highlands southeast of Lima and the Amazon rainforests led to speculation that the mysterious UFO could be a "Project Loon" balloon.
According to skeptics, the mysterious object could have been a high-altitude balloon, such as as one of several deployed in the Earth's stratosphere at altitudes of up to 11 miles under a research and development project called Project Loon by X (formerly Google X). The purpose of the project is to boost transmission of signals from ground stations so that remote and rural areas of the world would have better internet connectivity.
But ignoring reasonable alternative suggestions by skeptics, UFO blogger Scott C. Waring argued that the street light turning on suddenly as the UFO flew overhead was not a coincidence.
"A UFO was recorded over Lima, Peru, this week and in the recording we see a street light suddenly light up," he wrote in a recent post to his UFO Sightings Daily blog. "Coincidence? Probably not, since hundreds of UFO reports report electrical problems when the UFO was near. This is important evidence that this object was a UFO."
The recent alleged wave of reported UFO sightings has sparked speculation among members of the UFO community in Peru, with many wondering why so many alien UFOs were visiting Peru lately. But some enthusiasts pointed out that although Peru has not featured prominently on the global UFO map it has always been a UFO hotspot.
According to some enthusiasts, the UFO traffic over Peru was likely due to extraterrestrial tourists visiting the country's famous ancient historical sites, such as Machu Picchu citadel in the Andes Mountains.
The idea that there may be a booming Earth safari tourism industry of extraterrestrial origin has been gaining traction lately in UFO circles, as the Inquisitr noted in a previous report.
Citing classified UFO files released recently by the U.K. Ministry of Defense that revealed top officials speculating that aliens could be visiting Earth as tourists, some members of the alien and UFO community suggested that the recent dramatic surge in reports of UFO sightings around the world could be because the Earth is a favored interstellar tourism destination.
According to some researchers, UFOs spotted lurking behind clouds around the world could be run by commercial alien tour operators conducting extraterrestrial clients on guided tours of Earth.
The latest claimed sighting of a mysterious UFO crashing to Earth comes after the Inquisitr reported that an unnamed witness from Post Falls, Idaho, claimed to have sighted on October 12, 2016, at about 11: 45 a.m., a mysterious UFO "falling from the sky" with a "sonic boom."
The sighting testimony, filed as Case 79772 in the reporting database of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), sparked comparison with the alleged 1947 Roswell UFO crash. Some enthusiasts suggested that the government could once again be engaged in covering up the truth about a new UFO crash incident that has afforded fresh opportunity of access to alien technology for reverse-engineering research purposes.
