Deep sea sounds: Mariana Trench mystery sounds identified as never before heard whale song

Robot submarine Challenger Deep recorded the chilling alien sounds while on a mission into the deepest part of the world's oceans.

When it returned to surface experts were met with a soundtrack of low rumbles, strange moans and high pitched screeching.

The sub had plunged into the Mariana Trench in the Pacific, a world of total darkness nearly seven miles beneath the surface and filled with mysterious creatures never before discovered.

The sounds - nicknamed the Western Pacific Biotwang - have been probed by scientists ever since the dive backs through the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015.

One 3.5-second recording picked up by the Challenger Deep was particularly creepy, featuring a low moan followed by an almost bird-song like screech.

But now experts have announced they have solved the mystery - it is actually a never before heard type of whale-song.

Scientists suspect the monstrous moaning is sounds coming from minke whales - a type of baleen whale.

The boffins are now trying to work out what the horrifying noises actually mean - with the twanging moan being recorded all year round.

Sharon Nieukirk, lead author of the research paper from Oregon State University, said: "It's very distinct, with all these crazy parts."

She said: "The low-frequency moaning part is typical of baleen whales, and it's that kind of twangy sound that makes it really unique.

"We don't find many new baleen whale calls."

The wider purpose of the study of sound in the deep is to work if human-created noise in the ocean is getting louder.

Scientists Claim To Have Found 234 Alien Civilizations

Aliens are like buses, you spend ages waiting for one and then 234 come along at once. Or at least, that's what two astronomers from the Laval University in Quebec are suggesting.

Ermanno Borra and his graduate student Eric Trottier have analyzed over 2.5 million stars and galaxies for pulses of light emitted at regular intervals and discovered it in 234 stars similar in size to our Sun. The team believes that alien civilizations are behind those signals.

The researchers looked at the Fourier Transform (FT) of the light spectrum. The FT is a mathematical tool that allows us to work out where the components of a signal come from. If the light is a milkshake, by using the FT you get the recipe.

The FT analysis has found periodic modulated components which, according to the scientists, are caused by the super quick light pulses (less than a trillionth of a second) generated by Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI).

In the paper, available from the Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, they discard every other explanation such as instrumental effects, rotation of molecules, rapid stellar pulsations, and peculiar chemistry.

"We find that the detected signals have exactly the shape of an ETI signal predicted in the previous publication and are therefore in agreement with this hypothesis," the researchers wrote in the paper.

Believers have previously thought Nessie is a prehistoric dinosaur called a plesiosaur which lurks beneath the murky waters of the Scottish Highlands.

But even monster hunters are sceptical to believe that a dinosaur could survive in the loch.

Monster hunter Jon Downes, a cryptozoologist who runs the UK-based Centre for Fortean Zoology in Devon, told Daily Star Online that there's no way the Loch Ness Monster could be a plesiosaur.

He claims the monster would have been sighted more often if it was an ancient dinosaur.

"If you think about it laterally, it's not an air breather, there's not enough water or space in Loch Ness and it doesn't come up on land to give birth. So I don't think it can be what most people think it is," he said.

"There aren't enough sightings of it."

So if Loch Ness isn't believed to be dinosaur, what could it be?

Giorgio Tsoukalos, an ancient astronaut theorist, asked the question if the Loch Ness Monster was from another planet in the H2 series In Search of Aliens in 2014.

Tsoukalos, who believes the idea ancient alien astronauts interacted with ancient humans, said: "Maybe we are dealing with something more than just some large prehistoric creature."

He added: "What if the Loch Ness Monster isn't a monster at all but maybe, as some people have claimed, some kind of alien craft?"

He goes on to suggest with the help of Dr John Brandenburg, Professor of Physics at Madison College, that Loch Ness might be an alien gateway to allow spaceships to travel through.

Dr Brandenburg claims a large amounts of quartz deposits, which are found around Loch Ness, potentially paving the way for a route into space.

He said: "You have enormous electromagnetic fields being generated. That means we can create, perhaps, a traversable wormhole."

And it gets even more bizarre when considering the number of UFO sightings around Loch Ness.

Holidaymakers snapped a photo showing two mysterious disc-shaped objects flying over the famous lake in the Scottish Highlands in 2015.

Alan Betts, the director of a refrigeration company in Bradford, said he was bewildered by the strange glowing white shapes hovering over the loch and was unable to find a rational explanation for the strange picture.

On top of this it also emerged last year that a secret Scottish base for an international cult who believe Jesus was an alien set up a base in Scotland.

The Aetherius Society, founded in 1955 by George King, set up the base on a remote bank of Loch Ness.

Director Mark Bennett told The Herald newspaper: "Beings from other planets are the cornerstone of our beliefs. They want to help us.

"I love Loch Ness. We believe it has a special significance."

Meanwhile a creature has been spotted in the frozen waters of Canada which could be Nessie's icy cousin.

And a tourist recently claimed to have taken the clearest picture of the Loch Ness Monster to date.

But it seems Marnie Simpson has been exploring her passion for the supernatural since the 24-year-old reality starlet claims to have spotted a UFO.

The TV personality took to Twitter on Saturday to announce: 'I have seen another UFO today on the way to the airport. Not even funny anymore I swear they no I can see them. (sic)'

Marnie also posted a mocked up picture of some flying saucers on Instagram, captioning the image, 'I would pay you to abduct me'.

The star's brush with extraterrestrial life didn't convince her fans, who queried whether her imigination had run wild.

One fan joked, 'by any chance was it an airplane', while another laughed, 'must be them dodgey contact lenses you use!'

A third shared: 'could it have been a "funny shaped" plane - seeing as you were on your way to an airport?'

Marnie is in good company since a host of famous faces - from Zayn Malik to Danny Dyer - famously believe in the creatures from outer space.

1D star Zayn confessed he first decided to leave the boy band after a visitation from an extra-terrestrial being in his dream.

The singer told Glamour magazine: 'An alien spoke to me in a dream.'

EastEnders actor Danny famously took part in 2010 documentary I Believe In UFOs, which saw him tour the globe visiting locations of reported alien sightings.

He declared: 'I've seen UFOs. It wasn't an airplane, it certainly wasn't a balloon, it wasn't a Chinese lantern.'

Pop princess Demi Lovato recently told Elle Canada of her UFO encounter, revealing she believes in life beyond the earth.

She recalled: 'I was walking outside and I looked up and it almost was like there was a worm in the sky

'It was changing shapes and moving all over the place.'

Max Spiers 'killed' before he could prove something.

It was during a Polish trip, when Max Spiers from Canterbury was believed to be ready to expose a "major UFO cover-up" that he died.

That happened due to "natural causes" said Polish authorities. However, the mystery behind the "perfectly healthy 39-year-old" dying is a mystery that no one has been able to unravel. His family is sure that the reason was a "satanic cult."

The update on his death is that he "threw up two litres of black fluid" just before he died. Last Monday, during an inquest at Canterbury Coroner's Court, after his body had got repatriated, some new revelations indicated mysterious circumstances.

Just before he died, he had texted his mother. He told her to be sure to probe into the matter in case anything happened to him.

Coroner's investigations officer Caroline O'Donnell said: "When they returned, Mr Spiers became ill with a high temperature and was weak. The following day, Mr Spiers vomited two litres of black fluid. The friend called a doctor who attempted resuscitation before pronouncing him dead."

He was murdered, said his mother, Vanessa Bates. She said: "He was making a name for himself in the world of conspiracy theorists and had been invited to speak at a conference in Poland in July. He was staying with a woman who he had not known for long and she told me how she found him dead on the sofa. But I think Max had been digging in some dark places and I fear that somebody wanted him dead.

"Max was a very fit man who was in good health and yet he apparently just died suddenly on a sofa. All I have is a death certificate from the Polish authorities that it was from natural causes, but no post-mortem was done, so how can they tell that? They are also refusing to release any paperwork about it to me because, absurdly, I don't have his written permission."

Spiers' girlfriend, Sarah Adams, 31, revealed that he had become frightened of a Polish sect that he was linked to. He was convinced that they were posing a death threat to him.

She said: "We were used to getting death threats or stuff like that from people, but I think this time it seemed rather real. He'd been sent threats saying that him and me were going to die. He was going to expose black magic. He was going to expose some of the stuff he was working on involving political leaders and celebrities."

"He seemed anxious when we last spoke. He was terrified, he wanted to leave."

Paranormal investigators are analysing the images, which were taken by a perplexed tourist on December 7.

The unnamed witness told Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) yesterday: "This was taken from a bus that was moving very slowly during a tour of Brooklyn, New York.

"I did not have my flash on my iPhone when I took the photos.

"Also, I only took a photo of this because I knew what the building was but it was not mentioned by the tour guide so there would probably not be others taking photos."

The lights appear in three pictures and it can be seen in the sky near to a domed building.

Express.co.uk asked Scott Brando, a forensic UFO investigator, to look at the pictures.

He runs hoax-busting website ufoofinterest.org and looks at all possible explanations of apparent UFOs in pictures and videos.

He says he has yet to see a UFO picture or video that cannot be rationally explained.

Mr Brando believes the picture was not a hoax.

However, he believes the lights in these pictures were simply a reflection of a spotlight through the tour bus window.

He also provided an example of such a light.

He said: "I think it could be a reflection of a spotlight with six leds like this

"I read the picture was taken inside a tourist bus."

The fact the photographer did not notice anything at the time, but only when he reviewed the pictures gives more weight to the reflection theory.

The witness added in his report: "I saw the light after the fact when I was looking at my photos. If anyone has the knowledge to judge if this is a reflection, I would welcome that.

"I took many photos from the bus that day and that particular image did not appear in any of others."

MUFON, based in the US, is the world's largest organisation dedicated to UFO and alien research.

It admits that a high percentage of sightings it receives are misunderstood or deliberate hoaxes, but it investigates as many as possible.
